Hi,

Today my wife saw a snake in the river near our house.  Her description is:

Approx. 20 inches long, half inch thick, black diamond pattern down the body, very distinct white semi-circular marks on the back of the head.

We'd like to know what it was - any posts appreciated.  Thanks

Mike

Yeah, the only native species of snake with light semi-circles (a collar) on the back of the head/neck will be a Grass Snake, no doubt.

sometimes unfortunatly, captive snakes can escape, although they don't
live very long in our cold weather... sometimmes people keep garter
snakes which sometimes ressemble grass snakes, but in this case it is a
grass snake, HARMELESS
